But initially his historic career was not born from wanting to break records in the cage – rather to break the bank on designer threads and shoes.

Asked where his passion for making money began, McGregor told Tony Robbins: “I enjoy good clothes.

“Dublin 12, we are known to dress well. We might not have the best money and we can’t afford a lot of things but we’d always dress well, we’d always be clean and we were proud of that, my people were proud of that.

“I always think back to where my want for for money came – what made me interested in money, where did my love for money begin and what made me want to acquire that.

“And when I think about it, I wanted to acquire money so I could by clean, fresh runners, sneakers, we call them runners back home.

“That’s where it began, so fashion was always installed in me and I always thought when I’m able to get up and make some money I’m going to splash out and buy the finest silks and the finest materials and where them proudly.”

Public speaker Robbins, who McGregor named as his life coach, sat down with the Irishman last year.

But the American author has only just released the interview, with McGregor since announcing a retirement on Twitter, his third in four years.

The Notorious revealed the decision came from a frustration at being pushed back down in the lightweight title picture, with interim champ Justin Gaethje set to face Khabib Nurmagomedov in September.

UFC president Dana White and McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh both confirmed the retirement.

The 31-year-old southpaw walks out with an estimated Forbes net worth of £80MILLION.

His watch collection also stretches over £700,000 as well as launching his own clothing line with designer David August Heil.

McGregor also claims his Proper 12 whiskey raked in £750m in its first year.
