Who is Dr. Fauci?

Dr. Anthony Fauci, 49, is the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

He’s served as an expert on The White House’s coronavirus task force, and appeared at daily press briefings earlier this spring.

What is the ‘Hamilton Dr Fauci’ TikTok?

The TikTok was created by Hoying of acapella group Pentatonix.

Hoying said in a caption it was co-written with comedians Brad Silnutzer and Joey Orton.

In the TikTok, Hoying raps and sings to the tune of Hamilton’s opening song, Alexander Hamilton.

The famous musical was written by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

In the video, Hoying began: “How is a genius immunologist/Grad of Cornell with a doctorate/Dropped in the middle of a pandemic get stopped by the president for all of the press he did?”

“‘Cause tantrums from a toddler trump facts from a scholar,” he rapped, referencing President Trump.

He continued: “They call him the masked king/The duke of distancing.”

“Why aren’t we listening to someone of his stature and positioning/It’s sickening.

“This is what physicians do/All disaster movies start with a scientist no one listens to,” he rapped.

He continued singing, noting how Fauci was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and was a leader against the Ebola and Zika pandemics.

Hoying then showed a picture of “McDreamy” or the character of Derek Shepherd from Grey’s anatomy, who he said Fauci makes “look sleazy.

He also showed a picture of Dr. Gregory House from House, saying “he can’t keep up” with Fauci.

“He’s got the hottest body of work/What’s your name man?” Hoying rapped.

The video then cuts to Hoying posing as Fauci, with a green screen of the White House press room in the background.

“Dr. Anthony Fauci/My name is Dr. Anthony Fauci and there’s a million things I haven’t cured/ But just you wait/Just you wait/Dr. Anthony Fauci,” Hoying sang, dressed as the doctor.

Why is it trending?

The video has gone viral on social media in recent days.

Fans said the video gave a nod to Fauci that was well-deserved.

People applauded the video in comments on TikTok and Instagram.

“Another work of pure genius,” singer Malia Civetz commented on Instagram.

“Yes yes yes. A million times YES!” another user commented.

The video came as Fauci has come under fire from some people in recent weeks, who claim his comments in the early days of the pandemic are to blame in part for high virus cases in the US.

White House Trade Adviser Peter Navarro recently blasted Fauci in an op-ed, saying the doctor has “been wrong about everything I have interacted with him on.”

Navarro slammed Fauci for “telling the public the China virus was low risk,” and “flip-flopping on the use of masks” as the US worked to create more.

The White House trade adviser’s slam came days after the White House released a list of Fauci’s alleged “mistakes” during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Other experts, meanwhile, have defended Fauci, saying he’s given appropriate guidance.

They say that as more information because available about the virus, Fauci’s advice would naturally change to reflect that.

Others, including Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, have said Trump is to blame for high virus spread in the US.

What have Fauci and Trump said about each other?

Fauci and Trump have disagreed on multiple occasions with guidance on issues related to coronavirus.

While Trump touted hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine as treatments for COVID-19, Fauci was weary of the drugs being used as such and said there was not enough evidence to show they were successful.

The FDA later pulled emergency use authorization for hydroxychloroquine.

As Trump began his daily coronavirus task force briefings for the first time in three months, Fauci said he would not be there as he was not invited.

The doctor most recently disagreed with Trump on whether or not COVID-19 will be eradicated in the US.

Despite Trump saying coronavirus will “go away” at some point, Fauci said because of the nature of coronavirus, he thinks it may stay forever.
