LATE MAIL: Manly star ‘confident in Turbo return; Broncos Gamble on unknown half

TRANSFER CENTRE: Manly show faith to young gun; Barrett lands another signing

NRL: James Hooper tells NRL 360 that Warriors tabled a 3-year deal to Addin Fonua-Blake today worth $850k a season, matching what he’s signed on with Manly for 2021 and 2022 and want to get the deal done in the next couple of days.

Josh Addo-Carr’s bid to quit the Storm to take up a deal in Sydney has taken a hit.

The Storm say they’ll only release Addo-Carr if they get a like-for-like replacement.

The Bunnies showed interest, with the Storm attempting to engineer a swap which would see Alex Johnston or Campbell Graham go the other way.

Neither player was keen, and the Tigers have been reluctant to release any of their outside backs – David Nofoaluma and Tommy Talau have been mentioned – in exchange for the NSW Origin winger.

“We have spoken to the club he wants to go to and inquired about a couple of players and they have fobbed us off,” Storm CEO Dave Donaghy told media on Wednesday.

“It is their prerogative but it’s not helpful in trying to achieve an outcome for Josh.”

In light of prop Addin Fonua-Blake’s request for a release to likely join the Warriors, Manly will now have some extra cash up their sleeve and are already eyeing two new signings.

The Daily Telegraph’s Dave Riccio reported the Sea Eagles will turn their attention to luring unwanted Bulldog Kieran Foran home to the Northern Beaches.

Luke Garner is tied to the Tigers until 2022.

“Already I’m hearing names like Kieran Foran in a potential comeback to the club and also Luke Garner from the Wests Tigers with reports surfacing this evening that he could also be a target,” Riccio said.

NZ BOUND: Warriors offer Fonua-Blake three-year deal

Foran has been linked to reduced deals at the Knights, Sea Eagles and Broncos since his season was ended prematurely after tearing his pectoral in Round 17.

Manly’s salary cap is unbalanced and in a precarious position due to the $3.6 million they have tied up annually in the Trbojevic brothers, skipper Daly Cherry-Evans and Marty Taupau.

Garner will be a tougher proposition because he is signed to the Tigers until the end of 2022.

However Tigers coach Michael Maguire has salary cap pressures of his own and may look to offload the rising back-rower to free up extra cap space.

Addin Fonua-Blake's immature response

NRL: Paul Kent says Addin Fonua-Blake’s response following a request to leave Manly is ‘dumb’ and ‘immature’.

Cowboys enforcer John Asiata is being chased by three Sydney based clubs after informing North Queensland that he is quitting the club.

The 27-year-old has played 127 games for the Cowboys since his debut in 2014 and won a premiership with the club in 2015.

The versatile back-rower can also cover prop, five-eighth and centre, but his path to his favourite position of lock at the Cowboys is blocked by Dally M Medallist Jason Taumalolo.

The Courier Mail reported Asiata has been in talks with incoming Bulldogs coach Trent Barrett about a move to Belmore, while his management have also been in contact with the Eels and the Dragons.

Barrett is believed to be a big fan of Asiata’s creativity and toughness as he aims to improve the Bulldogs’ spluttering attack in his first season in charge in 2021.

The Cowboys veteran was mooted as a possible target at the Titans, before they signed forward trio David Fifita, Herman Ese’ese and Tino Fa’asuamaleaui.

Asiata has also been linked to the Broncos, but given the number of promising forwards on their books and the fact Brisbane have put recruitment-and-retention talks on hold until they finalise a new coach, that is an unlikely landing spot.
